Roger, son and heir of Robert of Flamborough, has performed fealty to the king for the ninth part of a knight’s fee which Robert held of J., formerly earl of Lincoln, whose son and heir is in the king’s custody. Order to the sheriff of Yorkshire that, having accepted security from Roger for rendering his relief to the king, he is to cause him to have full seisin of the aforesaid ninth part of a knight’s fee. 1

29 Oct. Guildford. For the executors of the testament of the Earl Marshal. To the barons of the Exchequer. The king has betaken himself to M. countess of Lincoln, who was the wife of W. Marshal, formerly earl of Pembroke, for £500 of the £800 by which the executors of the earl’s testament made fine with the king for the debts in which the earl was bound to him. Order to betake themselves to the same countess for the aforesaid £500 and to cause the aforesaid executors and their pledges to be quit from the said £500.

Concerning the utensils formerly of the abbot of Sherborne. Order to the sheriff of Dorset to inquire if the abbot of Sherborne had separate possessions from the convent, and if he had a chalice and silver vessels, and what other manner of possessions, he is to take them into the king’s hand and keep them safely until he has a command from the king otherwise, and he is also to retain the chalice and silver vessels to the king’s use. Once he has possession of that chalice, he is to offer it on the king’s behalf at the high altar in order to hold the Eucharist, and he is to keep the other vessels and signify to the king what manner of possessions he had and what vessels.

The king has pardoned to Roger Cusin 60s. of the £69 which Roger owed to William of Lancaster, and for which the king betook himself to Roger in part payment of the debts that William owed to the king, and he has granted him that, whereas he had previously granted him that he was to render £9 10s. per annum for all of the aforesaid debt, he is now to render 20s. per annum of the remaining £66, namely 10s. at the Exchequer of Easter in the thirty-first year, 10s. at the Exchequer of Michaelmas in the same year, and 20s. thus from year to year at the same terms until the aforesaid £66 have been paid to the king. Order to cause Roger to be quit from the aforesaid 60s. and to have the aforesaid terms for the remaining £66.

For the expenses and the time which the men holding of the king’s sergeanties alienated in the counties of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Yorkshire, Northumberland, Cumberland, Westmorland and Lancaster spent in London on account of the same sergeanties, the king has pardoned to the aforesaid men a moiety of the extent together with a moiety of the growing crops of the same from the time at which the sergeanties were taken into the king’s hand until Michaelmas in the thirtieth year. Order to cause the same men to be quit from the aforesaid moiety for the aforesaid time.

16 Nov. Marlborough. Concerning the executors of the testament of the Earl Marshal. To the barons of the Exchequer. The executors of the testament of W. Marshal, formerly earl of Pembroke, have satisfied the king fully for the £800 by which they made fine with him for the debts in which the same earl was bound to him. Because the king betook himself to M. countess of Lincoln for paying £500 of the aforesaid fine at the Exchequer, because the same executors have paid 130 m. of the remaining £300 in the king’s Wardrobe by the king’s order, and because the king wishes that 120 m. be allowed to them for the crossbows and quarrels bought from them to the king’s use, he has pardoned to them the 200 m. at which the same earl was amerced for trespass of the king’s forest, as he understood by the testimony of trustworthy men that the same earl was amerced at 200 m. after his death. Order to cause the same executors and their pledges that they will find the king for rendering the aforesaid fine to him to be fully quit from the aforesaid £800 and to cause this to be done and enrolled thus. 1 They have letters patent for this.

Order to W. de Haverhill treasurer, and Edward of Westminster to cause the anniversary of the late Queen of Scots, the king’s sister, to be solemnly celebrated on the morrow of St. Lucy the Virgin, and, on the same day, to cause the Great Hall at Westminster to be filled with paupers for her soul, and to cause them to be fed, and to cause the same Hall to be filled and those paupers fed for five days in a row at Christmas, namely on the feast-day itself and on the feasts of SS Stephen, John, the Innocents and Thomas the Archbishop and Martyr.
